The students have been working hard this first semester to increase their reading level and comprehension on text. During finals week the students are taking the SRI assessment for the second time to determine their growth. Over the holiday break we recommend students reading each day for at least 10 minutes to increase their fluency and comprehension. Reading is the best practice!
We are now nearing the end of our second 6 weeks. Students have been working hard to complete projects on the affects of immigration in their neighborhood. All student in my 3rd, 4th, and 6th period classes are presenting their projects to the class beginning tomorrow. I am excited to see the hard work revealed. As for student in my classes at Young Junior High, there have been several changes to class schedules. Parents please be patient with us as we work hard to place students in the correct class to help them succeed. If you have any questions about this process please do not hesitate to contact me.
We have just concluded our first six weeks of school. Students have been working on reading comprehension, finding the main idea and supporting details, learning new academic vocabulary and developing fluency. All students in my 6th period Read 180 class have completed their SRI exam and have been notified of their current reading level. I sent a parent letter home 2 weeks ago. If you did not receive this letter please notify me.
In the upcoming six weeks we will get into the meat of our class. Students will begin to use their personalized instructional software to improve their reading levels, and work from their rBooks in small group sessions. All students are currently being tested on their reading skills. The Read 180 program uses the SRI exam to determine student's current reading level. The exam is only about 20 minutes and it test students for their reading comprehension and fluency. The results of this exam will determine the placement of each student. A student can test high enough to be removed from the Read 180 class, or low enough to be placed in another reading intervention class, Systems 44. Our desire and goal is to increase each student's reading level and prepare them for their STAAR reading assessment. Parents will be notified of the results of this exam as soon as each student has finished testing.
